Two Lovely Illuminating Blog Awards

25 05 2012

Last week Phillipa of the World on a Platter blog awarded me The Lovely Blog Award. An absolutely charming blog hosted by a mom and her two kids, World on a Platter chronicles food, journeys and growing up. Thank you so much, Phillipa, I really appreciate it, and look forward to following your blog.

And if that’s not enough, just today I was awarded the Illuminating Blogger Award by C.J. over at Food Stories, a great healthy eating blog that I’m very excited to get to know better. Thank you so much C.J. If you’re into food that doesn’t try to kill you I highly recommend you check out Food Stories. At the very least you’ll get some great healthy recipes out of it.

Wow. I’m humbly racking up quite a few award badges over here on the right side of my blog, which is great, except I’m running out of bloggers to pass the award on to.

For the Lovely Blog Award award I’m supposed to share seven things about myself and forward the award on to 15 bloggers.  For the Illuminating Blogger Award my task is to share one thing about myself and give the award to five bloggers. Being the lazy slug that I am I’m going to cheat and combine both.

So here are seven things about me that few people (but now you all) know:

  1. I’ve never liked ice cream or beer, so don’t ever offer me a Corona float.
  2. I’ve seen a live taping of The Tonight Show With Johnny Carson. Yes, I AM that old.
  3. I own a 1978 Jeep Wagoneer with only 62,000 original miles on it. (And yes, it runs and it’s paid for. In fact, my son drives it to school everyday.)
  4. I was one of 10 finalists in the 1992 Southern California Comedy Competition. No, I didn’t win. (I’m just about over it, but not quite, so best not to bring it up at cocktail parties.)
  5. I can still do a cartwheel. (But then I have to ice my groin for a minimum of 17 minutes.)
  6. I’ve been able to keep a poinsettia alive for two and a half years, even though I live at 7,000 feet and there’s snow on the ground six months out of the year. (Luckily, you don’t have to water a poinsettia that much.)
  7. I once rode in the Tecate-Ensenada Bike Race, which is 75-miles through Baja California, Mexico. I completed it in five and a half hours. I would’ve finished sooner but I got a flat and had to wait for someone to come along and fix it for me. (I will only go so far when roughing it.)

And as for sharing the love with 15 bloggers, I’m afraid the most I can muster up is five. So for you five lucky bloggers consider yourself each the winner of BOTH the Lovely Blog Award AND the Illuminating Blogger Award:

Doug’s Boomer Rants

The Laughing Mom

Motley News and Photos

Everyday Mom Style

Lost in Suburbia

The Wordslinger

Okay, that’s six. So I can’t count. Now you know why I don’t work in a bank (among other reasons).

I urge you to check out these six blogs (as well as the two that gave me the awards in the first place), and then follow them if you so desire. And to you six winners, if I already gave you awards for something else in the past, please accept these NEW ONES as a bonus. Okay? Now you get to list seven things about yourself and come up with (up to) 15 bloggers that you want to share with the world (don’t cheat like I did — do as I say, not as I do). In this case you get two for the price of one. What a great way to start your weekend, right?

Wow – you are collecting awards so fast I can’t even keep up! There’s a reason for that. Keep it up.

Oh, and for the record, that ride was 76 miles, not 75. Hey, when you’ve gone 75 miles, one more mile MATTERS. Especially on an old dumpy bike, but I digress…

Yes! How could I forget? You’re right, it WAS a 76-mile bike ride through Mexico. And for the record, I actually did it TWICE (how stupid was that?), two years in a row. And I know YOU know of what you speak, because you did it with me (at least once, memories of both rides are kind of a blur at this point in my life).

Great post & I’m so glad that you can still do a cartwheel 🙂

As long as I’m near an ice machine afterward, I’m good!

Gee, thanks! I’ll gladly take any award where I can wear my ratty-old pajamas to the acceptance ceremony. I’ve got some award Karma that I need to pass on as well. Better get to work before I alienate my blog audience/friends and all I have left are spammers to read my posts…

It would take more than that to scare away your blog readers, Terri! I love your blog and would guess that you have many more blog awards in your future. And yes, the best awards are the ones where you can bask in their glory while sipping coffee in your jammies! Glad I could provide that for you today! 🙂

Okay, Stacy, knock it off. I’m frankly a bit fed up with all the “Way to go”s and “Congratulations” and “You rock”s that I’ve had to send lately. Could you just bring it down a bit and not win EVERY SINGLE AWARD IN THE ENTIRE WORLD!!!

Just wait until I tell you about my “Ate the most jalapeno peppers while balancing a spoon on my nose” award. It’s the epitome of talent.

Woo-hoo! Congrat’s on your awards!!! And thank you for listing my blog. That does mean a lot to me. LOL.. I’m so bad at passing these on. I have several since February I haven’t done anything with, so I think this weekend I’m just going to do one big post and honor a lot of blogs I religiously follow.

Oh, btw… YOU DON’T LIKE ICE CREAM??? You socialist commie pig! 😉

Michelle, I love your blog and read it constantly. I think you deserve tons of awards! But I know what you mean, when you get these awards then you have to take the time to pass them on. I try to be good about it, but the I get behind, too. With recognition comes great responsibility! Or something like that.

And yes, I’ve never liked ice cream, even as a kid. I guess that makes me some sort of (illegal) alien…or a communist…or both. 😉

Well then whenever you are served ice cream, you can always pass it to me. 😀

Thanks, Ruth. I truly appreciate your enthusiasm for my blog. I see your blog name pop up regularly in the comments and the LIKES, and am so happy that you take the time to read my crazy thoughts and then take the time to comment. 🙂

I don’t like ice cream either, or cheesecake. I also have never seen a single Star Wars movie. Congrats on your award!

Thank you so much! At last, another person who doesn’t like ice cream! Or cheese cake! We are few and far between. Thanks for your honestly. I feel vindicated that I’m not the only one!
